After checking in, take time to rest and adjust to the high altitude. If you feel like going out, you can walk to Potala Square and get amazing photos of the Potala Palace and its surroundings.

Day 2

Today is all about Tibetan monasteries — a deep dive into Buddhist learning and monastic life.

In the morning, visit Drepung Monastery, once home to over 10,000 monks and the largest monastery in Tibet. As you explore the Coqen Hall, your guide will share insights into Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and introduce you to key figures in its history.

You’ll then visit Loseling College (or an equivalent) to see how monks study and live — even stepping inside their dormitories to understand their daily routines.

In the afternoon, continue to Sera Monastery, another of Tibet’s “great three” Gelug monasteries. Witness the famous monk debates (15:00–17:00, Monday to Saturday), a unique and lively practice that sharpens their understanding of Buddhist teachings.

At the foot of the palace, stop at Longwangtan Park for a fresh perspective and a chance to join local Tibetan folk activities.

In the afternoon, visit the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism, where you’ll see the precious statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at age twelve and pilgrims prostrating outside. Then walk along Barkhor Street, joining locals on their kora around the temple and exploring the old market.

On clear days, you can see Mount Nyenchen Khangsar, the highest peak near Lhasa. Explore several viewpoints along the lakeshore, and at the far end, visit a local family for lunch in their village home.

Continue to the Karola Glacier, Tibet’s largest, where the ice tongue stretches down the mountainside — a dramatic sight against the deep blue sky. Stop at Simila Pass to hang prayer flags and wish for peace and good health.

After a short visit in Gyantse, continue to Shigatse, passing barley fields and farmlands glowing green in summer or golden in autumn. Check in to your hotel and rest for tomorrow’s journey to Mount Everest.

Enter the Mount Everest National Nature Reserve and reach Gawula Pass (5198m) for a panoramic view of the five highest Himalayan peaks — your second view of Everest.

Drive along the scenic zigzag road to Everest Base Camp, watching the peak grow larger with every turn. By the time you arrive, Everest’s white pyramid stands right before you — your third view.
